A Safer, Smarter Master Bath: Wisteria Park Remodel in Bradenton

Wisteria Park Master Bath

When homeowners in Bradenton’s Wisteria Park neighborhood decided it was time to refresh their master bathroom, their primary goal wasn’t just aesthetics. Although their existing bathroom was less than twenty years old and perfectly functional, they were looking ahead. The clients sought a significant update that would combine modern luxury with smart design choices for aging in place. At Duncan’s Creative Kitchens, we were excited to take on the challenge of transforming their space into a beautiful, accessible, and highly functional retreat.

Rethinking the Master Bath Layout for Longevity and Livability

The original bathroom layout presented several opportunities for improvement. First, the existing shower, while adequately sized, was basic and lacked sufficient storage. Furthermore, the large bathtub had become difficult to access and was no longer desired by the homeowners. Finally, the vanity area included an unnecessary seating nook and lacked dedicated linen storage.

Our mission was clear: create a space that was safer, more efficient, and elevated in style.

The Strategic Elimination of the Bathtub

The most significant change in the room was the decision to remove the cumbersome bathtub entirely. This space was ingeniously repurposed. Now, a beautiful, custom window seat takes its place. This area serves multiple functions, offering a convenient place to sit while getting ready and featuring two drawers below for additional storage.

Upgrading the Vanity Area

Reworked Vanity Area

While the clients wanted to keep the convenient feature of two sinks, the existing vanity was redesigned to be more efficient. We utilized beautiful StarMark Cabinetry in their Cosmopolitan door style, a classic shaker with a refined interior bevel, finished in a crisp white paint. This selection gave the room an immediate boost in clean, contemporary style. It also complements the Pompeii Coastal countertops, which repeats on the window seat and shower sills to unify the design. The redesign eliminated the awkward seating nook, allowing us to incorporate a custom linen cabinet with stacked doors. This tall cabinet offers the essential storage the clients desperately needed. Finishing the look, the homeowners sourced elegant framed mirrors and decorative sconces, providing a polished and personal touch.

A Safer, More Luxurious Shower Experience

The homeowners were keen to improve the safety of their shower as they age. This was a critical component of the remodel. Therefore, we completely redesigned the shower with a focus on accessibility and modern features.

Easy to Use Shower, No Matter Your Age

The new shower boasts a curbless entry, eliminating the trip hazard and allowing for easy, seamless access. Inside, safety and comfort were paramount. We installed grab bars and a dedicated corner seat, making the shower much safer and more comfortable. For added convenience, a separate handheld shower head was included alongside the main shower head. Finally, a recessed niche was created for organized, clutter-free storage.

The material selection for the shower is a true highlight of this Wisteria Park master bathroom. The 12×24 marble-look floor tile extends beautifully up the shower walls as the field tile. To introduce a pop of sophistication, we incorporated a smoke-blue glass tile accent: a single horizontal band at the ceiling and a triple-height band at eye level. This tasteful accent creates depth and visual interest. A clean, frameless shower enclosure with clear glass and a hinged door finishes the space, giving it an open, airy feel.
