Coastal Kitchen Remodel in Palmetto: A Sugar Mill Lakes Transformation
Recently, we designed a kitchen refresh in Palmetto’s Sugar Mill Lakes where the layout was serviceable, but the finishes were failing. The original space featured worn-out builder-grade cabinets with peeling thermofoil and harsh fluorescent soffit lighting.
The Before
The homeowners had a clear vision for their coastal kitchen remodel in Palmetto. They wanted to keep their existing warm porcelain floors but craved a “Florida feel” with watery blues. Additionally, they needed improved lighting, more counter space, and significantly better storage solutions.
Designing a Harmonious Coastal Aesthetic
Since we retained the sandstone-look tile floor, we needed a palette that bridged warm and cool tones. Therefore, we selected StarMark Inset Cabinetry with a Maple Ridgeville door style. The Dove White paint finish instantly brightened the room, providing a crisp backdrop.
However, the Cambria Montgomery countertops are the true star of this design. This quartz surface features warm gray and turquoise accents that perfectly complement the flooring. Consequently, these turquoise flecks influenced the rest of the design choices. We installed a mixed media backsplash tile featuring white marble and blue glass in a 1×3 mini subway shape. Furthermore, the wall paint was selected to match these serene blue tones, completing the coastal vibe.
Space Planning, Storage, and Functionality
Creating a dream kitchen often requires clever tricks for small spaces. To increase usable workspace, we installed a slide-in range. This removes the bulk of back controls found on older units, which opens up the wall space to highlight the new backsplash.
Storage was a major priority for this coastal kitchen remodel in Palmetto. We relocated the pantry from the main kitchen area to an unused hall closet just around the corner. As a result, the homeowners gained triple the pantry storage, complete with convenient roll-out trays. We created a refrigerator alcove to reduce visual bulk and to make the overhead storage easier to reach.
Finally, we ditched the fluorescent lights. The new, layered lighting plan includes LED can lights general illumination, under cabinet task lighting on dimmers that double as ambient lighting in the evening. Now, this kitchen functions as beautifully as it looks.
Homeowner Impact
The coastal kitchen remodel in Palmetto’s Sugar Mill Lakes reads bright and breezy, yet warm and livable. Turquoise accents provide a subtle Florida vibe without overwhelming the design. The homeowner gained more counter space, more storage, and a modern lighting scheme. Moreover, the project preserved the existing tile floor, which saved time and budget while maintaining continuity with the home’s character.
