A Kitchen for Entertaining on Snead Island

A pair of experienced antiques dealers and avid cooks purchased their new waterfront home on Snead Island and knew exactly what they wanted from their kitchen. With a spacious 300-square-foot footprint, the kitchen was destined to be the heart of their home. It was to be a place not only for culinary creation but also for entertaining their many guests. This wasn’t just a kitchen remodel. It was a collaborative project to create a functional, elegant space that reflected their traditional style and passion company.

Designing for Culinary & Social Flow

The project’s success hinged on creating distinct yet interconnected work zones for cooking, cleaning, and entertaining. The clients, having overseen many remodeling projects, involved themselves deeply in the design process. Our role as designers and cabinetry suppliers was to provide a perfect foundation for their vision. We carefully planned the layout to accommodate their active cooking lifestyle, which included dedicated spaces for their top-of-the-line appliances. A large central island became the key element of the design. Intentionally created for entertaining, this space housed a second sink, a wine chiller, and an ice maker. It makes the perfect hub for guests to gather and mingle.

The Timeless Beauty of Cherry and Granite

Selecting the Granite

Achieving the traditional, elegant aesthetic the clients desired proved easy with StarMark cabinetry. Their Prescott door style, a raised panel profile with a pillowed frame, is a contemporary take on a traditional aesthetic. The natural cherry finish provides a rich, warm tone that will deepen beautifully over time, adding to the kitchen’s timeless appeal. Built-in stainless steel appliances, including a 48-inch Sub-Zero refrigerator and Wolf cooktop and oven, offer a sleek, professional contrast to the traditional cabinetry. The homeowner-sourced granite countertops are a showstopper, featuring bold movement with striking gold, warm gray, and black accents that are truly breathtaking in natural light. This countertop was the perfect choice to unify the warm cherry cabinets with the cool stainless appliances.

Intentional Details That Make a Difference

Beyond the primary kitchen, a thoughtful design touch was added to the adjacent breakfast area. We incorporated auxiliary pantry storage that was specifically designed with a furniture-like appearance. Providing valuable extra space, it does so without sacrificing style. Every detail, from the built-in ice maker to the rich cherry wood, was chosen to create a space that is not only beautiful but also incredibly efficient.

This Snead Island kitchen is more than a remodel. It’s a perfect fusion of professional-grade functionality and timeless elegance. Dedicated work zones, combined with high-quality materials, create a space that both meets the clients’ needs as avid cooks but also serves as a beautiful backdrop for entertaining. Another example of thoughtful, client-focused design, resulting in a kitchen that is both a practical workspace and a welcoming hub for family and friends.
