Functional Beauty: A Guest House Kitchen Built for Family
Every project we undertake is a collaboration, and this one was a special one for repeat clients. They’d recently purchased a charming bungalow on Holmes Beach, a quintessential Anna Maria Island getaway. The plan was to use it as a guest house, a warm and welcoming retreat for their visiting family. While the existing kitchen was adequate, it lacked the warmth and traditional style they love. Our mission was clear: to transform a serviceable space into a kitchen that felt just like home.
The Before
Function
Our clients wanted a new kitchen that was both beautiful and highly efficient, perfect for entertaining and long family visits. Instead of a major structural overhaul, we focused on making smart changes within the existing footprint. We started by removing the bulky soffits, which allowed us to run the new dark cherry cabinets all the way to the 8-foot ceiling. This simple change had a huge impact, making the room feel taller and more spacious while adding valuable storage.
The most significant transformations was the pantry. The original space had bifold doors and fixed shelves, a setup that was inefficient and hard to navigate. We completely reimagined it, sliding custom pantry cabinets into the existing opening. This gave our clients the benefit of full extension roll-out trays and other internal accessories, turning a cluttered closet into a highly organized and accessible storage solution.
Beauty
Design elements were all chosen to create a warm and traditional feel. The modified shaker-style cabinets feature a soft ogee profile, adding a subtle touch of elegance. Kashmir Gold granite countertops beautifully complement the new 20-inch diagonal tile floor, defining a cohesive and inviting color palette. Integrating a stylish wine rack became a perfect touch for a home that will be used for entertaining. At the very top, stacked cabinets with lighted glass doors add a sophisticated display element. The final touch was the backsplash, a stunning 1/2-inch mosaic of glass and stone in neutral beiges and reddish browns that pulls the entire color scheme together.
The result is a kitchen of functional beauty, a space where every design choice, from the rich cabinetry to the smart storage, serves a purpose. We transformed this island bungalow kitchen into a welcoming and efficient hub, ready to host family and create lasting memories for years to come.
