The original guest bathroom in this Bradenton, Florida home was ready for a change. It had an outdated, early American style with a dark vanity and floral striped wallpaper. The space felt cramped and dark. Its wall-to-wall vanity was low and not very user-friendly. We knew we had to work with some constraints, including a peach-toned floor tile and the existing bathtub. The goal was to transform the space into a warm, modern oasis while keeping its unique architectural features.
The Before
Bringing a Guest Bath into the Modern Era
Our primary challenge was a large, arched niche with a mirror, which was a beautiful but unusual architectural detail above a vanity seating area. Instead of removing it, we decided to make it the room’s highlight. We kept the existing mirror and designed a new vanity that stopped before the niche, creating a deliberate break in the space. We then used the area below the niche for towel bars, displaying vibrant hot pink accents to introduce a pop of color and personality.
Crafting a Stress-Free Sanctuary
For the new vanity, we used our private-label Stressless Cabinetry. This line offers moderately priced, all-plywood cabinetry with the most sought-after styles. We chose the Oak Sanctuary (raised panel) door style in a natural finish, complemented by a matching mirrored medicine cabinet. The new Giallo Fiorito granite countertops and oil-rubbed bronze handles perfectly matched the new shower fixtures, creating a cohesive design. In the shower, we replaced the old square wall tiles with large, 18-inch earthy-neutral tiles that beautifully complemented the existing peach floor. A new shower enclosure with clear glass and antique bronze accents completed the look, making the room feel more open and sophisticated.
