When a couple of part-time residents retired, they knew their newly purchased condo on Perico Island in Bradenton would be their winter home. But the master bathroom’s dated, 80s-style decor and a safety-hazard bathtub weren’t the serene retreat they envisioned. They reached out to Duncan’s Creative Kitchens to transform the space into a light, classic, and accessible sanctuary.
The Before
Designing for Comfort and Safety
Our primary goal was to create a bathroom that would “age in place” with the homeowners, prioritizing both style and function. The tub was replaced with a spacious, walk-in shower. While a zero-entry design wasn’t possible due to the condo’s second-floor location, we included a comfortable seat, a separate handheld shower head, and grab bars. A bi-pass shower enclosure and large 10×13 tiles mean fewer grout lines and easier cleaning, a key request from the homeowners.
Elegant Storage Solutions
Storage was another critical element. We selected Stressless Cabinetry with the Sanctuary raised panel doorstyle in a clean white paint. This design provides a classically traditional feel that complements the existing oak floors, which the homeowner loved and wanted to keep. The cabinetry includes a multitude of drawers and an upper storage cabinet with frosted glass for a touch of elegance. The whimsical sea life cabinet knobs add a subtle, personalized charm.
Seamless and Stylish Finishes
The countertops are a white acrylic solid surface with integrated sinks. This choice eliminates seams, making the countertops incredibly easy to clean and maintain—a perfect match for their Florida lifestyle. The overall design focuses on a light and airy feel, combining traditional elements with modern, easy-to-care-for materials. The result is a master bathroom that is not only beautiful but also safe, accessible, and perfectly suited for the homeowners for many years to come.
