Aging Gracefully in Village Green: A Master Bath Designed for Style and Safety
A recently widowed and long-time resident of Village Green in Bradenton approached us to discuss her project. Her dated master bathroom, covered in bold floral wallpaper, felt overwhelming. The client’s primary goal was clear: she needed a beautiful, accessible space that would support her desire to age in place safely and comfortably. We saw an opportunity to reimagine the layout, improve accessibility, and bring a sense of calm to her daily routine. At Duncan’s Creative Kitchens, we specialize in creating spaces that are both stunning and practical for life’s changes.
Designing for Safety and Convenience
We began by removing everything, including the fluorescent light box, shower curb, and linen closet. The old hinged bathroom door clashed with the bi-fold linen closet doors, making access awkward. Something there had to change.
The Before
The new curbless shower features a bench seat, niche, and dual showerheads, including a luxurious rainhead. A frameless hinged door from My Shower Door, Inc. adds elegance while keeping the space open and safe. The bathroom floor now showcases 18” earthtone tile, while lighter beige 8×10 tiles wrap the shower walls and extend into a wainscot around the toilet and vanity. Slip-resistant pebble tile graces the shower floor.
Solving Storage and Lighting Challenges
The client’s previous linen closet had bi-fold doors that constantly clashed with the hinged bathroom door. We solved this frustration by replacing the hinged door with a smooth-sliding pocket door and transforming the closet space. It now holds a beautiful, open-shelf maple linen cabinet, matching the dark coffee stain of the vanity. This design provides easy, door-free access to towels and toiletries.
We installed taller vanities with Stressless Cabinetry in a dark coffee-stained maple Simplicity shaker style door. Cambria quartz counters and a white undermount sink complete the look. Above the toilet and asymmetrical vanity, custom cabinetry replaces the old medicine cabinet, offering more storage and a cleaner aesthetic.
Lighting was a key upgrade. Recessed LED can lights and a slim wall sconce replaced the harsh fluorescent box, creating a warm, inviting glow. Brushed nickel Moen fixtures add a subtle touch of sophistication.
A comfort height toilet was installed, strategically placed to allow room for future grab bars if needed. Cambria quartz to match the counters repeats on the shower seat, and niche sill to complete this elegant, functional, and calming redesigned master bath.
This transformation delivers on both style and functionality, ensuring our client has a gorgeous, safe bathroom right here in Bradenton, Florida.
